About

The Students of Sustainability project and annual gathering grew out of ideas that came up at the end of the Global Ecovillage Network meeting in summer 2008 at Sieben Linden. A group of young people did a Dragon Dreaming circle with John Croft and called the group that was sitting there together “Students Of Sustainability – SOS”.

After this first meeting Anna and Sandra at Sieben Linden were inspired to organise an international week in summer 2009, the original idea being to structure it a similar to a week they had been organising for 4 years for German speaking young people from all over Germany. Around the same time they found out about he EU’s Youth in Action programme and started talking about applying for funding.

In the process of writing the application and finding partners, this international week turned into a “project” called “Students Of Sustainability”. The project time frame is May 1st till October 31st 2009. So 6 months. The aim is to use enhance the Students Of Sustainability Network, to create a lively exchange among young people working in the field of sustainability, to talk about cooperation and to create something (a treehouse platform and an internet platform). An aim in the is to work on the “annual priority of Youth in Action”: “Enhancing Awareness about Global Challenges (e.g. Climate Change)”.

The partners of the project all is the *preparation visit*, which will happening *May 25th and 26th* (arrival on 24th, leaving 27th), so that we have enough time to talk everything through. During this meeting we want to have time to get to know each other and our organisations, to visit the place for the tree-house-platform we want to build, to collect our ideas for the program of the july-week, to plan the different times of that week in smaller groups (input time, exchange and social interaction, practical work), to teach each other methods that we want to apply during the week (e.g. Open Space),  and to have a good time together. I will send the timetable in a different mail.
